Mumbai, Aug 20: Imagine Abhishek Bachchan as ‘Maryada Purushottam Ram’ and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as the docile and beautiful ‘Sita’ in a period film on the epic Ramayan. Well, the imagination may soon turn out to be a reality as the ace director is actually intending to sign Abhi-Ash for his upcoming film on Ramayan. And guess who will be cast in the role of Hanuman? Well, it is none other than our comedy star Govinda, who will be seen playing the monkey God. Mani Ratnam is super elated with his next project after ‘Guru’, which was based on the life of industrialist Dhiru Bhai Ambani that saw this off-screen couple playing the lead role. Tamil actor Vikram will play the evil Ravan. The new modernized version of Ramayan by Mani Ratnam has become the talk of the tinsel town. Buzz has it that like Gowariker’s Jodhaa-Akbar, which focused on the romance between Akbar and Jodhabai, Mani Ratnam’s film, too, will revolve around Ram-Sita love story. However, the story line still remains unclear. The film is to be made under Ratnam's banner Madras Talkies and will be produced by his sister Sharda. The flick will go on the floors by September end. Incidentally, Vikram, who will be playing Ravan in the movie, will play Ram in the Tamil version. Well, this news is bound to create stir. Abhi-Ash fans would be euphoric but the moral policemen of our time would be sitting like hawks just waiting to pick a controversy and create ‘Ram’ issue again. Beware, Mani sir! The film will be made under Ratnam's banner Madras Talkies and will be produced by Mani Ratnam's sister Sharda, since his brother Srinivas who used to handle the production house is no more. The film will go on floors from September end. Incidentally, Vikram, who will play Ravan in the film, will be playing Ram in the Tamil version." The actors have, reportedly, been sworn to secrecy. When contacted Govinda said, "How can I reveal the script of the film? All I can say is that it's a brilliant script and Mani Sir is an extremely talented director. I am honored to work with a veteran like him." Mani Ratnam remained unavailable for comment. |
