Known As: Andrew Leipus Other: Physiotherapist Profile:Appointed by the BCCI as the Indian team physiotherapist in October 1999, Andrew Leipus is a native of Adelaide, Australia. He is a qualified sports scientist and a physiotherapist (University of South Australia). He spent a good seven years in the university learning the finer aspects of his trade. Leipus is a freewheeling spirit in the Indian camp attending to the players' injury and physical condition. He has his job cut out, to make sure that the players are in good physical shape when they take to the field. The Indian team has benefited tremendously ever since Leipus took over and the general level of fitness of the Indian team has gone up by leaps and bounds.Leipus is one who believes that though fitness is important, it is skills that matter most in the game of cricket. Leipus too is a natural athlete, who comes from a Tennis background with a strong passion for Australian Rules Football. He has been through the agony of being injured and was forced to switch over to triathlon because of a knee injury. He loves the water sports, surfing being his favourite. Leipus spent almost two years in South Africa, before he joined the Indian team. He worked with the likes of Daryll Cullinan and Andrew Hall at the Centre of Sports Medicine, Roesbank, Johannesburg. |
