WHAT IS A HOROSCOPE

A chart depicting the position of planets as seen from earth at the time of an individual's birth is called a `Horoscope,' or `kundli' in Hindi.
The earth moves from west to east and hence the Sun appears to move from east to west. The 360 degree circle of the zodiac is divided into 12 parts of 30 degrees each called the zodiac signs. According to the motion of rotation of the earth the Sun appears to cover a distance of one degree of the zodiac in each day. Hence it takes 360 days or a year for the Sun to cover the 12 zodiac signs in 12 months.
The zodiac signs are in the sequence of Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer and so forth, with the last sign as Pisces.

Kundli
Sun Sign:

The position of the Sun in a particular zodiac sign at an individual's birth is called his/her Sun sign.

Moon Sign:
The position of the Moon in a particular zodiac sign at birth is called the Moon sign, or Rashi in Hindi.

Rising Sign:
At the time of an individual's birth the zodiac sign rising in the east is called the Rising sign, or the Ascendant, or Lagna in Hindi.

Houses
Houses:
The 12 zodiac signs in a birth chart are called the Houses. These are called " houses" because the position of a planet or planets in a particular sign is referred to as being situated in a particular house.
The Ascendant by virtue of it being rising in the east is called the 1st house. The sequence of the 12 houses is shown in the diagram. In one day, or 24 hours, each of the 12 zodiac signs will rise in the ascendant in a sequence. That means, each zodiac sign of 30 degree each, takes about 2 hours to complete its sojourn in the 1st house. Hence 12 signs of 30 degrees each will take 24 hours to complete the full circle.12 signs x 30 degree each= 360 degrees.

Cardial Points
CARDINAL POINTS:

The east, west, north and south are the four cardinal points. As shown in the diagram these are the 1st, 7th, 4th and the 10th houses. These four houses are considered most important in the study of astrology.

1st House:
In Indian astrology the 1st house is also called Janam, or the birth, for, the 1st house represents the birth of the individual, - the Self.

7th House
This signifies the opposite sex, or the partner of the individual.

4th House
Indicates one's mother.

10th House:
The 10th house is the symbolic representation for individual's father.

Wonder of Birth
Wonder Of Birth:
To illustrate an example of child's birth, look at the diagram.
Assuming that a child is conceived in the mother's womb [4th House] at one degree Aries. It will take 270 degrees or nine months for the Sun to traverse to the birth [Ascendant] in one degree Sagittarius. And we all know a normal time of delivery from conception to birth is nine months. According to Indian astrology the Sun is in the 1st degree of Aries around the 13th of April, and it enters the 1st degree of Sagittarius around the 14th of December. Hence a woman conceiving a child in April is likely to deliver the baby in December.
