Yet, rather than mull
over the immediate period post “Boom”, Kaif, who was here to promote her
latest film “Tees Maar Khan” (releasing in UAE cinemas on December 23)
, prefers to think that hard work, dedication and professionalism are the
three ingredients that have bagged her the success that she commands today.
“I have worked 12 and
14 hour days. But rather than looking upon it like just another job, it
is a passion,” she enthused. “I have always been a big fan of Bollywood
musicals, so what you see today is that bearing fruit.”
The actress, who is already
known for her dancing prowess, has taken that accolade to a new high with
“Tees Maar Khan’s” now infamous number, “Sheila Ki Jawani” for which she
even lost eight kilos and pulled off such “raunchy moves” as she says,
that the song achieved cult status overnight.
Yet few people know that
it was also the song that garnered Kaif the maximum amount of injuries.
“It is a brilliant song,
but the injuries I sustained during the four days of filming it’s a story
on its own,” she laughed. “First the bones in my hip started to rub against
each other and caused shooting pain to course through my body; this was
followed by pain in my knees. The worst was yet to come because at the
end of the track, Akshay (Kumar, her co-star in the film) picks me up and
flings me across his shoulder. During that stunt, I snapped my neck and
was unable to move it for four days.
“In retrospect though,
it was worth the pain.”
The song has also upped
Kaif’s stakes in the live performance bracket, with hoteliers allegedly
offering to pay her Rs30 million for a 15 minute performance on New Year’s
Eve. But the actress has refused it all.
“I will be shooting at
the time for Yash Raj’s “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan” at the time, so no, I
won’t be performing anywhere, no matter what anyone says,” came her firm
response.
