I-T officials did not find any documents in Priyanka Chopra's residences.
In a move to clear her name from the "malicious rumours" reports in the media about her alleged unaccounted wealth, Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra has issued a statement rubbishing that there is undisclosed income that runs into crores. A statement from the film star's chartered accountants states that only 50,000 rupees was found in her home and that all the money was accounted for. 

Priyanka's representatives also state that all jewellery and houses stated in media reports are already accounted for. It is also said that she hasn't mentioned how many properties she actually owns.

Investigation wing of the income-tax department on Monday raided the premises of three Bollywood celebrities — Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif and Atul Kasbekar — for suspected tax evasion. Ten teams of 30 I-T officials raided 12 locations including offices and residences of the celebrities. The department sealed 12 bank lockers belonging to them and collected bank statements, documents related to their properties and investments and details of their contracts with endorsement companies and production houses. 

In raids that continued till late on Monday night, officials seized documents pertaining to financial transactions. “The officials took away two suitcases full of documents,” said a neighbour of Katrina Kaif, who lives in an apartment in Guldev Sagar Society, Bandra (W).

According to I-T officials, they received information that these celebrities received payments, which were unaccounted, in lieu of their professional commitments. "Though payment is by cheque, actors are paid in cash or given a gift of an equivalent amount for attending private parties or performing at weddings and also when they sign a film contract. A huge sum is then invested in property or shares. We are now trying to ascertain this," said an I-T official. They still need to ascertain the contents of the lockers, he said.  The I-T department is investigating whether the two actresses paid taxes proportionate to their known sources of income in the past year. Sources close to the actors said they were cooperating with the officials and it was too early to comment on the allegations. They hoped it would be amicably resolved.

Another I-T officer, requesting anonymity, said 12 premises were searched and 12 bank lockers sealed. “The lockers will be opened in the next few days,” the officer said.

The officer said the search at Chopra’s house yielded documents that indicated concealed income. “We are scrutinising these to find out the amount of concealed income.” Authorities didn’t find anything at Kaif’s house but are investigating if she transferred money to London and if that was declared.
