Bail for actor
Salman Khan
31. Aug. 2007.
Actor Salman Khan was on Friday released from the Jodhpur Central Jail
on bail after six nights in confinement in the chinkara poaching case.
The Rajasthan High Court admitted his revision petition against the award
of five-year imprisonment.
After spending six nights
behind bars, Bollywood star Salman Khan today walked out of the prison
after the Rajasthan High Court gave bail and suspended his five-year sentence
awarded for killing an endangered deer nine years back. Justice HR Panwar
ordered the release of the 41-year-old star in the Chinkara poaching case
after directing him to furnish a personal bond of Rs one lakh and two surety
bonds of Rs 50,000. The next date of hearing of the revision petition has
been fixed on October 24.
The actor came out of the
jail around 6 p.m. waving to crowds waiting outside.
In the jail he spent most
of his time reading and sketching.
The actor, along with Katrina
Kaif, his sisters Alvira and Arpita, took a chartered flight to Mumbai.
His scriptwriter-father Saleem Khan and mother Salma left earlier by a
regular flight at 6 p.m. His family members did not visit the court premises
during the day.
The day’s hearing, for about
three hours, was held in the principal seat of the High Court in Jodhpur
on the last working day of the month despite a protest by local lawyers
against the establishment of a Jaipur Bench of the High Court.
For, Salman’s lawyers were
from Delhi and Mumbai.
Salman, who was arrested on Saturday, was lodged in Central Jail in
Jodhpur after losing his appeal in the district and session court of Jodhpur
against his sentence in the chinkara poaching case handed out by the Chief
Judicial Magistrate on April 10. |
