Mannat Shahrukh Khan's Bungalow

Mumbai, April 10: While Bollywood is still trying hard to come out of the terrifying shadows of the Mumbai terror attacks, the stars seem to be in no mood to take chances. While, the Bachchans have reportedly gone hi-tech already, King Khan Shah Rukh isn’t sitting quiet either.
According to reports, SRK has upgraded the security at his residence ‘Mannat’ by installing several high-tech devices. It is believed that the actor recently upgraded the security level by installing many state-of-the-art devices in his home. Perhaps, it is SRK`s way of ensuring safety of his family and staff.
Insiders suggest that SRK has installed bullet-proof windows in his house. The bullet-proof glass was apparently flown from Germany. ‘Mannat’ also has an identifying device in the elevator. The doors of the elevator only open when Khan or his family members calls for the lift.
What’s more is the fact that when the Khan family has a visitor, his security guard has to swipe a card with which the doors of the lift open. Looks like SRK doesn`t want to leave any stone unturned to ensure the safety of his family.

September 4, 2008:The Bombay High Court has issued a notice to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan over alleged illegal construction in his palatial bungalow Mannat.

The court has also sought explanation from the state government and Bombay Municipal Corporation that on what grounds did they allow the alleged illegal construction.

This is not the first time that Shah Rukh's house has been in the eye of storm, earlier also several complaints were filed against his house.

But this time round, however, the house is facing heat over the construction of a seven-storeyed building in the backyard.

A social worker had filed a filed a PIL last month, before the Bombay High Court against the alleged illegal construction. The PIL also alleged that the actor has further violated the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) Notification, 1991, by getting his land classified in the relatively liberal CRZI, when, according to the petition, the plot was in the highly restrictive CRZ-II classification.

The work on the bungalow is also said to be in violation with the statutory Heritage Regulations, which regulate that the new building has to be of the same height as that of the old building.

Shahrukh Khan faces legal notice for ‘Mannat’
14.sep.07. After Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan, it’s none other than King Khan who is to face legal action. The Mumbai High Court on Thursday asked actor Shahrukh Khan and his wife Gauri to file an affidavit explaining alleged irregularities in the construction of their bunglow ‘Mannat’ at Bandra, Mumbai.
The two have been given 14 days’ time to respond.
The court was acting on a Public Interest Litigation filed by the NGO Bhrashtachar Nirmulan Sanghatana. The PIL, filed in 2006, stated that the bunglow was encroaching on to the main road and should be demolished.
Shahrukh’s home is a beautiful palatial sea facing house, guarded by a huge high iron gate and tight security. It has been more than three-years since the actor purchased the house and sources say that he has still not transferred it onto his own name. The bunglow at present is in the name of a trust called Bai Khorshed Bhanu Sanjana Trust.

SRK gets to modify Mannat
Mumbai, February 7, 2006
The Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee (MHCC) has given actor Shah Rukh Khan a ‘no-objection’ certificate for changes being made in his bungalow, Mannat in Bandra, and the six-storey building adjoining it.

“We have awarded a completion certificate to the structure. On inspection, we found that the changes have been done as per the approved plans. It does not harm the original heritage structure and does not violate regulations,” said MHCC chairman Dr Sharad Upasni.

Mannat is a designated ‘Grade III’ structure. Buildings in this grade are considered to be of importance to the townscape.

The clearance paves the way for Khan to pull down the rear wall of the bungalow’s ground floor, connecting the two buildings. This will increase the size of the hall.

What's wrong with SRK's Mannat?
Thursday, November 18, 2004
It's Shah Rukh Khan's dream house. But several problems - the latest being a Rs 500,000 (over $10,000) robbery - are making friends superstitiously point fingers at his posh bungalow, 'Mannat'.

"It's that house that he has built for himself," whispers a very close and concerned friend about the house located in Bandra Bandstand from where jewellery and cash were stolen on Tuesday.

"Ever since he built his dream house, Shah Rukh's life has turned into a nightmare. There's no joy even in the unparalleled success that has become his birthright.

"Every happiness is clouded with sorrow. If friends tell him the house is unlucky, Shah Rukh gets very, very upset. So we all keep mum hoping and praying that the ill luck would go away.

"Mannat has proven to be anything but the haven that Shah Rukh had thought it would be."

Shah Rukh's best friend Karan Johar though refuses to be pessimistic even after the robbery, "It's a minor problem being blown out of proportion."
The bad news at home comes even as Shah Rukh continues to see tremendous success. He has had two releases so far this year - Main Hoon Na and now Veer Zaara . The first was a massive hit. The second is all set to become an all-time blockbuster.
In the past five years, Shah Rukh has had no failures except his two home productions Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani and Asoka , and Shashilal Nair's One 2 Ka 4 . He personally likes all three films immensely, and so do his fans.

But pain has qualified his steps to superstardom. He lost his father when he was very young. And just when he turned an overnight celluloid star with Deewana he lost his beloved mother also.

Health hazards have also plagued him.

Just on the eve of the release of Veer Zaara , during a holiday with his family, he injured his foot rather badly.

"Nothing about me can be 'not' serious," Shah Rukh quipped with his characteristic chuckle.

Cops investigating theft at SRK Mannat
November 19, 2004
It took almost a day for Shah Rukh Khan’s guests to realise they had been robbed of Rs 65,000, jewellery worth Rs 4 lakh and an Olympus camera worth Rs 10,000 on Nov 15.

Cops say the star and his wife were entertaining Gauri Khan’s aunt Neeru Tiwari, her husband Tejinder and their son and daughter on Nov 15. They were supposed to leave for Delhi the next morning.

The Tiwaris had packed their bags and left them in their first floor room. After watching a movie till 2 am, the Khans and the Tiwaris woke early next morning to find two leather purses missing

Confused about the disappearance, they began to ask if anyone had picked up the bags. It was only at 10 am on Nov 16  that they realised that it was a theft.

Says an official from Bandra police station, “The bags were stolen from the room where they were sleeping. No one is allowed access into the house, not even the guards at the gate. And with the tight security, it’s not possible that someone from outside stole the bags.”

Adds the official, “This leaves the sweeper, two maids and cook as suspects. Also, one of the guards at the gate might be involved.” Investigations are still on.
