Femina Miss India 2009

Pond's Femina Miss India 2006
Sunday, March 19, 2006
MUMBAI: Delicate strings of diamonds, rubies and sapphires sat easily on their heads, dimmed somewhat by the beams on their faces. Against the backdrop of a dark summer sky, three new stars were born — Neha Kapur, the Pond’s Femina Miss India-Universe; Natasha Suri, the Pond’s Femina Miss India-World; and Amruta Patki, the Pond’s Femina Miss India-Earth.
Crowns on head, the winning trio was given a full hand from an audience of film stars, industrialists and celebrities.
Entrusted with the unenviable task of choosing the winners was a panel of judges — film directors Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra and Karan Johar, fashion designers Tarun Tahiliani and Suneet Verma, and actors Zayed Khan, Karisma Kapur, Shamita Shetty, Neha Dhupia and Rakshanda Khan.
Once again, it was the big cities that produced the winners — Neha is from Delhi, the other two from Mumbai. There is an age difference of a year each between the three young beauties.

Amruta is the youngest. A business commerce student at Mumbai University, she is 20. Neha and Natasha, both models, are 22 and 21. All of them will now be beauty ambassadors who will represent the country in international pageants.

The question to all five finalists of the last round was a chicken-and-egg one, though it had nothing to do with bird flu: Does society influence Bollywood or Bollywood influence society? While Natasha said they were two sides of the same coin, Tanya Vakil, a 22-year-old interior designer, plumped for Bollywood, and said society was under the influence.

Adorned in attractive creations specially designed for them by Neeta Lulla, Rocky S and Ritu Kumar and proudly wearing the crowns on their coiffeured heads, the winners looked every inch the glamour queens they had set out to be.

It was a power-packed evening of shine and shimmer where attention was focused on the giant stage decorated with three replicas of the crowns.
There was an array of performances by some of entertainment’s best-known names. Anchored by actor Madhavan and TV host Mini Mathur, the evening got off to a sizzling start with Band of Boys.

Whistles greeted Bollywood hottie Fardeen Khan as he rocked to Kambakht Ishq and Marhaba.

Kareena Kapoor, who was a judge last year, was on stage this year swaying to Man Saat Samundar Dol Gaya and taking the temperature up several degrees.

The acts were directed by 360 Degrees and G S Entertainment and choreographed by Ganesh Hegde.
