Nitish for special plan
to check pollution in Ganga
Patna, May 7 The Chief Minister, Mr Nitish Kumar, favours joint action with the Centre to work out plans to check the rising pollution level of the Ganga river which, besides causing health hazards, now affects the rare aqua creatures too. Sources in the government disclosed that Mr Kumar was planning to take up the issue shortly with the Centre so that together they could work out measures to check the rising pollution level of the river. It was learnt that the pollution level of the river has reached such a critical point that its water was not fit for bathing or drinking. The number of aqua creatures, too, has decreased, requiring immediate intervention. Environmentalists were particularly concerned over the deteriorating condition of the Ganga river near Patna, which was being polluted by sewage water falling into it through 29 drains. |
