Case
of forgery filed against Priyanka Chopra''s tenant
Mumbai, Jan 19 (PTI) Bollywood
actor Priyanka Chopra has lodged an FIR against the tenant staying in theirflat
in suburban Andheri for allegedly forging documentspertaining to the tenancy
agreement, police said today.

Rakesh Kapoor, the tenant,
and others were booked underthe IPC sections related to forgery and cheating
by suburban Oshiwara police last month, deputy police commissioner KMMPrasanna
said today.
According to the police,
Kapoor stays in a flat owned by Priyanka in Sky Oberoi Heights building
in Andheri.
Kapoor''s tenancy agreement
was to end on December 31 andthe actor had sent him a notice a month earlier
asking him tovacate the flat, police said. |
However, Kapoor refused to
vacate the flat, and askedthe actor to renew the agreement, police said.
He also toldthe actor that they had no option but to renew the agreementand
stated that if she intended to sell the flat, the firstpreference should
be given to him, police said.
Subsequently, the actor''s
father Ashok Chopra complainedto the police.
Confirming the complaint,
additional commissioner of police Amitabh Gupta said, “A case has been
registered at the Oshiwara police station and the anticipatory bail application
of the accused is due to be heard on January 25 in the sessions court.”
According to the Oshiwara
police, as per the FIR registered with them, Kapoor has allegedly forged
certain documents pertaining to the agreement made between him and Chopra
for tenancy as well as sale of the flat.
Deputy commissioner of
police KMM Prasanna said, “A case number 534/10 has been registered under
sections 465 (punishment for forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security,
will etc), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 474 (intending to use
forged documents as genuine) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing
delivery of property) of IPC on December 20, 2010.” |

The police said that Kapoor
has been staying at Chopra’s flat in a plush building — Oberoi Sky Gardens
— in Andheri, jointly registered in her mother’s name.
Kapoor has been staying
there for the last couple of years. On December 31, the agreement between
Kapoor and the actor was due to expire and hence the latter sent him a
notice to vacant the flat one month in advance as per the agreement..
“Just when
Kapoor received the notice through the actor, he furnished some documents
that stated that Priyanka is bound to extend the agreement with him at
any cost. The documents also stated that in case if she intends to sell
her flat in future, the first preference should be given to Kapoor and
the offer could be extended to someone else only if he refuses to buy,”
said an officer from the Oshiwara police station.
Following the incident,
the actress’s father Dr Ashok Chopra, who holds the power of attorney on
behalf of Priyanka, registered a complaint with the police.
“It was found during the
course of investigation that Kapoor had reportedly forged the signatures.
Consequently, he was booked on charges of forgery and cheating,” the officer
said. |
