Priyanka Chopra plans to release her debut single by the summer, it has been revealed.
The Hindi film star has spent the past few months recording her first album in Los Angeles and New York.
Anjula Acharia Bath from Chopra's Desi Hits Universal label, spoke to Variety about the struggles the label initially had when they first set up.
"Desi Hits grew out of my love for Western music, pop and Bollywood. When we started, no-one would talk to us, not even desis," explained Acharia Bath

She has signed a deal to record her first music album and significantly, it will be managed by none other than , the man behind US star Lady Gaga. Universal Music Group and Desi Hits! announced in a statement that they had brokered a worldwide recording agreement with the 29-year-old actress. The statement added that she had already been writing and recording the English-language pop album. Interestingly, her foray into the global music scene -- a first for a Hindi language film star and a sign of an increasingly outward-looking trend in the industry -- will be overseen by Troy Carter, chief executive of Los Angeles based Atom Factory.

She will release the album in North America with Desi Hits through Interscope Records and in other international markets on UK's Island Records. Troy Carter, chief executive officer of Atom Factory, who also manages Lady Gaga, will look after her music career across the globe.

Carter also manages Lady Gaga, the pop culture icon of hits like ‘Telephone’, ‘Poker Face’ and ‘Born This Way’, who is known for her outlandish dress sense. Wonder if it would help our desi actress !
