Chopra NDTV Icons of the Year
New Delhi: Superstar of the millennium Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan and Former Miss World and Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai received the NDTV icons of 21 years of entertainment award at a starry event in New Delhi on Wednesday. Mr Bachchan was present at the function along with wife Jaya Bachchan and daughter-in-law Aiswarya. Shah Rukh arrived at the function along with filmmaker and buddy Karan Johar. Shah Rukh received the award from Home Minister P Chidambaram. The Home Minister appreciated the role of Shah Rukh Khan in his latest movie ' My name is Khan' in promoting the idea of India. It brought the citizens of Mumbai together in defeating the people promoting divisive politics. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Chidambaram said,''I would love to watch SRK-starrer My Name is Khan...I am waiting for the English subtitles...It was great the way Khan brought out Mumbai's solidarity.'' The Home Minister said the attack on the movie was not an attack on the film. ''It was an attack on the idea of India,''Mr Chidambaram said. Legendary musician A R Rahman received the Global Indian Entertainer Award while the new Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor got the Male Entertainer of the Year award. The charming Priyanka Chopra, who bagged her first National Award for her performance in Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion (2008), received the NDTV Female Entertainer of the Year Award while Director Anurag Kashyap got the Special Jury Award for his critically acclaimed films Like 'No Smoking, 'Dev D' and 'Gulal'. Director Karan Johar got Social Networking Icon of the Year award for introducing Bollywood to tweeter. Also
present at the awards function were Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi among
other luminaries from all walks of life.
