Bachchans offer prayers
at Siddhi Vinayak
Mumbai, Jan 09: Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan and his family visited the Siddhivinayak Temple in Central Mumbai's Prabhadevi area early on Tuesday morning. Bachchan, accompanied by son Abhishek and wife Jaya, walked the 15 km distance from his Juhu residence in western Mumbai to the temple, barefooted. They were joined by filmmakers and family friends Goldie Behl and Apurva Lakhia. The family attended the "Mangal Aarti" at 5 AM, temple sources said. The Bachchans have been regular visitors to the temple often walking the entire distance in the early mornings. The family also held a special puja after the senior actor recovered from his illness last year and have been seen visiting temples all over the country, including the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Benaras and Tirupati's Balaji Temple. "They said special prayers before Lord Siddhivinayak in whom the family has immense faith," a priest at the temple told a local television channel, referring to one of the many names of Ganesha. The Bachchans did not speak to the media. Despite the hour, scores of fans trailed the stars, who walked side-by-side amid heavy security. After the four-and-a-half-hour walk, the 64-year-old actor and his family reached the temple and offered prayers, flowers and lit incense sticks as priests chanted hymns. Last year, after Bachchan recovered from a life-threatening surgery, the family made a similiar barefoot walk to the temple to thank Ganesha |
